RIGID FILMS
RIGID FILMS
Rigid films are primarily produced by calendering.
Flat die extrusion and blown extrusion production technologies are also used. Stabilisers for these applications are designed to allow the production of PVC finished articles with desired quality and meet regulatory and market requests. Film production requires balanced stabilization lubrication in order to meet desired fusion and melt flow characteristics with no negative influence on transparency or presence of defects like flow lines. Optimised processability of PVC films including avoiding sticking or over lubrication can be achieved through the use of a one pack stabiliser/lubricant package or the use of individual ingredients.
Applications of PVC films can be divided into two main categories: food or pharmaceutical packaging and technical applications like furniture. Stabilisers for food contact PVC must be listed in Regulation (EU) 10/2011 and comply with the conditions defined by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
